It is gratifying and an honour, on behalf of the staff and students of this noble institution, to welcome you to the Department of Industrial Art in the Faculty of Art, College of Art and Built Environment of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. We offer you a great academic environment and an unforgettable experience comparable to any art department in the world.
Established in 1968, the Department of Industrial Art is mandated to train high-level manpower to manage the country’s industries and institutions in the areas of Ceramic Art, Ceramic Technology, Metal Product Design, Textiles and Fashion Design.
As a multidisciplinary department, we are poised to promote and develop academic excellence in teaching and research with a focus on industrial practices. The Department can boast of its unique programmes of study which are all oriented toward Competency-Based Training (CBT) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Our programmes span Textile Art, Design and Technology, Fashion Design, Metal Product Design Technology, Ceramic Art, Design and Technology. Currently, the department runs 5 undergraduate programmes and 9 postgraduate programmes.
I must emphasize that the department deems it a great pleasure and honour to have you as a student, a staff, a partner or a collaborator to share with you our repertoire of knowledge and skills pertaining to our unique specializations. With our well experienced, hospitable and competent senior academic faculty made up of lecturers, senior lecturers and professors with PhD degrees in relevant fields of speciality in industrial art, science and technology, we are passionate about providing the best knowledge and skills to our clientele and partners aimed at sustainable development of quality teaching and research towards the realisation of our vision and the university at large.
We have collaborative linkages with a number of local and international institutions and industries where our students and staff go for industrial attachment, internships, academic exchanges, collaborative research and projects to enhance and augment theoretical and practical knowledge and skills acquired or delivered in the lecture halls. The Department has trained and continues to train competent graduates who are serving as technical staff, supervisors, managers, and instructors, among others at various levels in industry and institutions within and outside Ghana. Most of our products have established their own firms and are doing credibly well in the world of work. We have set high and enviable standards for ourselves and we do not compromise on quality.
