MPhil Textile Design Technology – Program Overview

MPhil Textile Design Technology is a postgraduate program designed to build advanced expertise in textile science, design, and industrial practice to support the revitalization and sustainability of Ghana’s textile sector. Historically a major contributor to employment and industrial development, the textile industry has faced significant challenges in recent years, necessitating a new generation of skilled professionals to drive innovation and transformation.

This program addresses the critical need for qualified personnel in academia, research, and industry, especially in light of Ghana's educational reforms and the conversion of polytechnics into technical universities. It supports national development goals by preparing graduates to contribute to job creation and industrialization.

Developed with strong academia-industry collaboration, the curriculum emphasizes practical and research-driven learning in areas such as textile design practice, digital design, fibre and fabric technology, colouration, finishing, and design research. The MPhil program aims to produce graduates equipped to meet the evolving demands of the textile and garment industries, while also strengthening the capacity of tertiary institutions offering textile education in Ghana.
